Summer Musical Theatre Workshop:

Annie Jr.
For students ages 10–17 (maximum enrollment 30 students)
Hours 9:30–3:30
Performance - Friday, July 20, 7:00 p.m. at Whippoorwill Hall, North Castle Library
One of the most beloved musicals in history, Annie has a tuneful score filled with familiar songs and a wide array of fun characters. Rehearsals are combined with skills classes which promote self-confidence and an understanding of the creative process.
Musical Theatre Intensive
Monday July 23rd to Friday August 3rd (2 weeks)
Explore music from classic Broadway shows while developing your vocal, acting and dance skills. Also included are a few surprise workshops that won’t be found anywhere else!
For students ages 12–17 (maximum enrollment 20 students)
Hours 9:30–3:30
Performance–Friday, August 3, 7:00 p.m. at the Conservatory

Program Director Sariva Goetz has conducted and played in more than 15 Broadway shows, including 10 years as assistant conductor and first-chair keyboardist for the original Broadway production of Les Miserables. She is currently a full-time professor at American University in Washington, DC.

Music and Arts Program:
Monday, July 2–Friday July 27

Four weeks of FUN in music, art and theatre for children ages 6–11.
Morning, full and extended-day options are available.
Morning: 9:00 to 12:30
• Instrumental Classes: a fun introduction to playing an instrument. Choose violin, cello, piano, or guitar. Maximum 8 children per class.
• Creative Dramatics: an alternative to instrumental classes. Children learn the basics of stage craft and storytelling through improvisation, theatre games, scenes and skits. Maximum 15 children per class.
• Arts and Crafts: imaginative art projects using a variety of materials, in two and three dimensions.
• Glee Club: a fun approach to singing, moving to music. Students learn familiar songs, including Broadway show tunes.
Afternoon: 12:30 to 3:30 (ages 7–11, 7 yr. olds must be entering 2nd grade)
• Junior Musical Theatre Workshop–rehearse and perform Winnie the Pooh, a scripted one act children’s musical based on the Disney animated feature film. Children will be introduced to the basics of acting, singing, and movement, in an atmosphere of creativity and fun. It is recommended that children in this program have some reading abilities and are able to handle a longer day.
Extended Day Options:
Early arrival: 8:30
Extended afternoon: 3:30–5:30
A convenient option for parents who need earlier drop-off or a later pick-up time.
In the afternoon, children participate in supervised play and quiet activities.
Performances
Morning Program: Thursday July 26th at 6:00 p.m.
Afternoon Program–Winnie the Pooh: Friday July 27th at 6:00 p.m.
Children attending the full-day program will participate in both performances.
Teaching staff: are all members of the Conservatory’s professional music and theatre faculty. They are experienced teaching artists who enjoy working with children of all ages.

Summer Vocal Performance Academy:
Monday July 30 – Friday August 10
An intensive vocal program for serious young voice students ages 14 to adult. Students develop their performing potential, gain an awareness of healthy vocal technique and build a foundation for a range of vocal styles, including: opera, classical, musical theatre, jazz and gospel.
Ages 16 & up: Full program including private voice lessons
Ages 14 & 15: Apprentice program including voice classes
The program includes:
•Scenes (staged and semi-staged)
•Ensemble
•Sight-singing and diction
•Vocal technique
•Acting for singers
•Jazz and gospel workshops
•Master classes
•Vocal health
• Performance opportunities, including solo, duets, trios and large ensemble
Teaching Artists: Program Director, Thomas Jamerson, a former leading artist with the New York City Opera; Shirley Love, former soloist with the Metropolitan Opera; Mary Elizabeth Poore, soloist including: New York Oratorio Society, Glimmerglass Opera, Cleveland Lyric Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Basically Bach Festival and recordings with Gregg Smith Singers; Celeste Jamerson, soloist including: Opera Northeast, New York Chamber Players, North Carolina Symphony, Opera Iowa, and Westchester Choral Arts Society.

Students should prepare 2 pieces in contrasting styles (early Italian song, art song, musical theater piece, or suitable opera aria in English, Italian, French, or German) which demonstrate vocal range and abilities.
