Summer is Just Around the Corner!

Summer Open House

Music Conservatory of Westchester will hold an open house for its Summer Music & Arts program on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.  The program features a variety of offerings from songwriting to theatre to arts & crafts. This year, the program will add several new components including string ensemble, concert band, acting, hip-hop dancing and jazz improvisation. 

At the open house event, parents and their children can meet with staff, discuss their interests, and register. This fun program consists of four two-week sessions (parents can choose all or some) with half, full, and extended day options available. Meet the New Dean!

Douglas Bish, our new Dean of Students & Faculty, will begin at the Conservatory this Saturday, April 30. He looks forward to meeting our students and families from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 pm in the main lobby - feel free to stop by to say a quick “hello,” share your Conservatory experience, and ask him about his previous experience and future plans for our institution.

Dr. Bish returns to the Conservatory after serving on our faculty from 2006-2011, and has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as an academic leader, conductor, clarinetist, educator, author, lecturer, and music clinician. Most recently, he was Dean of the School of Fine, Applied and Communications Arts at the City College of San Francisco. Previously, he served as Chair of the Department of Music for the Nyack Public Schools. He has conducted professional, amateur, and student orchestras and wind ensembles around the world.

Music Conservatory of Westchester will hold two open houses for its Summer Music & Arts program on Saturday, May 7 from 10am-1pm. and Saturday, May 21 from 10am-1pm.  The program features a variety of offerings from songwriting to theater to arts & crafts. This year, the program will add several new components including string ensemble and concert band, and hip hop/jazz conditioning through movement classes. 

Parents and their children can meet with staff, discuss their interests, and register before May 9th at an “early bird” rate. This fun program consists of four two-week sessions (parents can choose all or some) with half, full, and extended day options available. Set Your Mother’s Day to Music

Music Conservatory of Westchester is giving the gift of music this Mother’s Day with a free family concert! Suzuki violin and cello students will perform “A Musical Mother’s Day” – with Germanic folk songs from the Suzuki repertoire as well as tunes from the great Germanic composers. 

The students will be led by the Conservatory’s Suzuki Violin Coordinator Suzanne Wagor and Suzuki cello teacher Nelly Rocha.  Audiences will be introduced to the Suzuki method of instruction for young children pioneered by Japanese violinist and educator Sinichi Suzuki.  For more information, contact info@musiced.org

April Suzuki Talks with Suzanne Wagor

Come join Suzanne Wagor in a series of talks for parents in the Suzuki program (guitar, violin and cello) or any parent considering Suzuki. Topics will include Suzuki philosophy, home practice ideas, the “mother tongue” method of learning music, how to manage the Parent-Teacher-Student triangle.
