Set Your Mother’s Day to Music

Music Conservatory of Westchester is giving the gift of music this Mother’s Day with a free family concert! Suzuki violin and cello students will perform “A Musical Mother’s Day” – with Germanic folk songs from the Suzuki repertoire as well as tunes from the great Germanic composers. 

The students will be led by the Conservatory’s Suzuki Violin Coordinator Suzanne Wagor and Suzuki cello teacher Nelly Rocha.  Audiences will be introduced to the Suzuki method of instruction for young children pioneered by Japanese violinist and educator Sinichi Suzuki.  For more information, contact info@musiced.org

Free Conservatory Faculty Performance!

A special Conservatory Faculty Recital will take place on Saturday, April 30 at 6:00 pm, in the beautiful showroom of Faust Harrison Pianos, right next door to the Conservatory. 

Faculty pianists Svetlana Gorokhovich and Irena Portenko will perform two piano/four hands works by Bach, Schumann and Strauss. The Classical Quartet, featuring faculty violinists Judson Griffin and Margaret Ziemnicka, will perform works by Haydn. This fabulous concert is free and open to the public – so invite your friends!

This concert is supported by a grant from the Westchester Community Foundation, through the Rudyard and Emanuella Reimss Fund.

Congratulations to Cindi Hsu (piano and composition) – Ms. Hsu’s original composition, “Three Flower Poems”, for flute and piano will be featured at the Composer’s Voice concert series

  • Three Flower Poems is inspired by Emily Dickson and William Black’s poems, which reflect Ms. Hsu’s deep appreciation and admiration of both poets’ remarkable understanding of human emotions and feelings

Hiroshi Yamazaki Trio performs with vocalist Glenda Deavenport – Sunday, 2/21 @ 5pm

  • Piano faculty Hiroshi Yamazaki and his trio will be performing a reception at the New Rochelle Public Library as part of their Strayhorn: An Illustrated Life exhibit.
  • Reception will be preceded by a screening of the documentary Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life @ 3pm. Strayhorn was a composer, arranger and pianist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra from the 1940s – 60s.

Faculty Performs in Concert for Piano Four-Hands

On Feb 3, our very own faculty members and critically acclaimed pianists Svetlana Gorokhovich and Irena Portenko return with a program of virtuosic works for piano four-hands, including the Ravel Rhapsodie Espagnole, Three Slavonic Dances of Dvorak, and a concert fantasy on the Blue Danube Waltzes. A Special time to Honor the Late Harold Jones

The Music Conservatory of Westchester will honor beloved flute teacher Harold Jones, who passed away last year, with a special dedication and brief performance outside his studio. Harold joined the Conservatory faculty in 1966. His impact as a performer, teacher, colleague, and friend has been wide reaching and unparalleled.
