Taryn Thomas is a native of Mamaroneck, NY, who began playing the piano by ear when she was a child. Taryn studied at the Music Conservatory of Westchester as a high school student when she became interested in composition. Taryn continued to expose herself to a variety of music and learned the importance of music in the community as she played in hospitals, children’s homes and correctional facilities throughout Westchester County. She attended National University in San Diego, CA completing her BA in interdisciplinary studies. Taryn went on to work in early childhood education for over 20 years as teacher and administrator.
She became interested in the discipline of music therapy when she volunteered at a community music therapy program and discovered that this was the work she would like to be doing. She returned to the Music Conservatory of Westchester as a music therapy fieldwork student in 2007 and went on to complete her MA in music therapy from New York University. During this time, she also worked as an intern at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. Taryn is pleased to return to the Music Conservatory once again as a member of the Music Therapy Institute faculty. |

"I am very happy and proud of Jun Luke Foster’s and Benjamin Boventer’s achievements. I taught Jun Luke for 12 years and his acceptance to Juilliard School of Music is a great sign of his musical maturity and accomplishment. He was also accepted to Harvard and Yale. Benjamin was with me for five years. He won a prestigious $40,000 scholarship from Skidmore College for music studies. He was the only pianist in that competition who received this award. He was also accepted at Tufts University. It is very satisfying to know that our students continue to achieve such success." —Svetlana Gorokovich, MCW Faculty |
