Inna Sukonik was born and educated in Russia, first attending a special school for gifted musicians and then graduating cum laude from Odessa State Conservatory of Music. As a young soloist she participated in the Ukranian Competition in Kiev. She went on to join the faculty of the Odessa State Conservatory and later taught at the Moscow Gnessin Musical Pedagogical Institute.
Soon after immigrating to the United States she founded the Émigré Trio and performed with numerous chamber ensembles, appearing at Town Hall, Merkin Hall and on WQXR. For the last thirty years she has lived in New York City and served on the faculties of the Music Conservatory of Westchester and the Lucy Moses School of Music and Dance. “I try to introduce music to my students as an art form that brings an added dimension to life. I do believe that art has great meaning for each individual. As a teacher, it gives me pleasure to work with students on understanding the structure of each composition. I start by explaining simple cadences to beginners, and with more advanced students I discuss deeper aspects of the music. I believe that positive reinforcement and warmly supportive teaching produces the best results.” |

"I am very happy and proud of Jun Luke Foster’s and Benjamin Boventer’s achievements. I taught Jun Luke for 12 years and his acceptance to Juilliard School of Music is a great sign of his musical maturity and accomplishment. He was also accepted to Harvard and Yale. Benjamin was with me for five years. He won a prestigious $40,000 scholarship from Skidmore College for music studies. He was the only pianist in that competition who received this award. He was also accepted at Tufts University. It is very satisfying to know that our students continue to achieve such success." —Svetlana Gorokovich, MCW Faculty |
