Lillian Laskowitz was born in New York City and began her piano studies at age 7 at the Henry Street Music School Settlement. She continued her studies at Manhattan School of Music and has been teaching piano almost all her adult life. She also taught for a number of years in the New York City school system.
When Lillian moved to Dobbs Ferry she enrolled her young son in a Suzuki violin program, an approach to teaching that was becoming very popular at the time. She was very impressed with the Suzuki concept of teaching music to young children as a form of language, through listening and imitation, much as they learn to speak before they can read and write. She learned to apply the Suzuki method in her own teaching by attending workshops in Wisconsin, Florida and Canada. “In the early years of childhood, it is important to have the involvement of an enthusiastic parent, who observes the lessons and is able to offer support and guidance at home,” says Lillian. “Another educational principle of the Suzuki method is teaching new material in small, manageable increments to ensure success.” Lillian has been on the Conservatory faculty for 24 years. She is comfortable working with children of all ages, but particularly enjoys teaching young learners of 5-6 years old, with whom she uses a modified Suzuki approach. Photo/Pinsky Studio |

"I am very happy and proud of Jun Luke Foster’s and Benjamin Boventer’s achievements. I taught Jun Luke for 12 years and his acceptance to Juilliard School of Music is a great sign of his musical maturity and accomplishment. He was also accepted to Harvard and Yale. Benjamin was with me for five years. He won a prestigious $40,000 scholarship from Skidmore College for music studies. He was the only pianist in that competition who received this award. He was also accepted at Tufts University. It is very satisfying to know that our students continue to achieve such success." —Svetlana Gorokovich, MCW Faculty |
