Su Jin Kwon was born in Stockholm, Sweden and raised in Orange County, California. She studied at Oberlin College Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, and New England Conservatory, earning bachelors and masters degrees. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies at New York University.

As a teacher, Su Jin places a strong emphasis on physical awareness and relaxation techniques, along with basic technique-building, ear-training, note-reading skills, and encouraging healthy practice methods. “I want students to appreciate the challenge of what they are doing,” she says, “and, more importantly, to have fun and enjoy music.”

Su Jin, who recently joined the Conservatory faculty, emphasizes the Suzuki Method when teaching young children. In teaching viola, she almost always incorporates elements of the Tuttle Coordination Method. She also serves on the faculty of the Port Jefferson Music Academy in Port Jefferson, NY and is Teaching Assistant to Jeffrey Irvine at the ENCORE School for Strings. She formerly taught at Brevard Music Center in North Carolina and at the Cleveland Institute as Assistant to Jeffrey Irvine.

"I am very happy and proud of Jun Luke Foster’s and Benjamin Boventer’s achievements. I taught
Jun Luke for 12 years and his acceptance to Juilliard School of Music is a great sign of his musical maturity and accomplishment. He was also accepted to Harvard and Yale. Benjamin was with me for five years. He won a prestigious $40,000 scholarship from Skidmore College for music studies. He was the only pianist in that competition who received this award. He was also accepted at Tufts University. It is very satisfying to know that our students continue to achieve such success."
