Svetlana Gorokhovich was born in Russia and received her music training at the Kazan State Conservatory. She earned her Ph.D. from St. Petersburg State Conservatory and in 1989 she immigrated to America where she continued performing solo recitals, piano duos and chamber music concerts in major concert halls in the United States, Italy, Japan, Iceland and Canada.

Ms. Gorokhovich won the International Bartok-Kabalevsky Piano Competition at Radford University (Virginia , 1997) and the IBLA International Competition in Sicily (1999) where she was awarded a special prize for Bach performance. Her Carnegie Hall recital in 2000 was acclaimed by the New York Concert Review.

Ms. Gorokhovich has made a number of recordings, including “Souvenir D’un Lieu Cher” (Helicon, 1997) with acclaimed violinist Dmitri Berlinsky, “Sonata” (Japis, 1998) with violinist Eva Ingolfsdottir, and her latest release “Russian Sketches” (SMH Music, 2006) on which she performs piano duos with her sister Liliya Khobotkova.

Svetlana loves to teach all types of students. “I am interested in discovering students’ personalities and helping them release their fullest potential. I try to balance strictness and discipline with encouragement and inspiration. My goal is to ignite a passion for music in each student, so that music becomes an integral part of their lives.”

Today Ms. Gorokhovich continues her busy recital schedule; she is also a highly sought-after teacher and coach. She has served on the piano faculty of the Music Conservatory of Westchester since 1998.

"I am very happy and proud of Jun Luke Foster’s and Benjamin Boventer’s achievements. I taught
Jun Luke for 12 years and his acceptance to Juilliard School of Music is a great sign of his musical maturity and accomplishment. He was also accepted to Harvard and Yale. Benjamin was with me for five years. He won a prestigious $40,000 scholarship from Skidmore College for music studies. He was the only pianist in that competition who received this award. He was also accepted at Tufts University. It is very satisfying to know that our students continue to achieve such success."
