Music Conservatory of Westchester • Faculty

Born in Gomel, Belarus, pianist and pedagogue Efrem Briskin holds bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees from St. Petersburg State Conservatory, where he studied with Valentina Kunde and Moisey Khalfin. He has performed and given master classes in many European countries, in North and Central America, and in South Africa.

Dr. Briskin is a founding director (with MCW colleague and cellist David Krieger) of SUMMIT Music Festival, a pre-professional summer training program for high school and college musicians. He and Mr. Krieger were also founding members of Westchester’s own Emelin Trio.

Dr. Briskin has taught at the Music Conservatory for fifteen years and is also a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music. As an Artistic Director of summer festivals in the USA and Europe, Dr. Briskin upholds the great European-American traditions of classical music education.

As a teacher, Dr. Briskin’s goal “is to teach each young person as a budding professional pianist. No matter what profession they choose (many of my students have become doctors, lawyers, business people, etc), music and piano playing will still be an important part of their lives."

Conservatory faculty are all highly skilled and experienced teachers. Teachers are assigned to maximize the learning experience of each student taking into account the students musical interests and goals, age and scheduling needs.
