Tina Brescia was born in Connecticut and grew up in Norwalk. Tina’s involvement in music began at age six when she started improvising on an old piano that her mother had purchased at a tag sale. At age ten she began taking formal piano lessons and was involved in her school choral programs.

In 1985 she graduated from Skidmore College with a BS in Music Education. “During my year as a student teacher at the elementary level, I found myself most interested in working with the children who were having difficulty in music class. I worked with a small group of special learners and truly enjoyed being able to connect with and create positive experiences for these children through the medium of music.”

It was a natural progression for Tina to move into the field of music therapy. In 1988 she graduated from New York University with a Masters in Music Therapy and became a certified music therapist. She worked at NYU Medical Center for eleven years, eventually becoming the Manager of the Therapeutic Recreation and Creative Arts Therapy department and overseeing all programs on six of the hospitals units. She spent an additional fours years working in the inpatient and outpatient units at Beth Israel Medical Center’s Pediatric Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Manhattan.

Tina joined the Music Conservatory family in 2001 as the Director of Onsite Services for the Music Therapy Institute. She is a professional member of the American Music Therapy Association and served for eight years on the American Association for Music Therapy’s Board of Directors’ publications committee. Tina completed her doctorate in music therapy at NYU in 2004 and has recently published a study in the monograph series: Qualitative Inquiries in Music Therapy, Vol. 2. She has been an adjunct member of the NYU Music Therapy faculty since 1988 and enjoys her role as teacher and supervisor to master’s students during their training process. “I truly believe that music has a unique way of tapping into the healthy aspects of our beings on so many levels. This is what drives me in the work that I do.”

"I am very happy and proud of Jun Luke Foster’s and Benjamin Boventer’s achievements. I taught
Jun Luke for 12 years and his acceptance to Juilliard School of Music is a great sign of his musical maturity and accomplishment. He was also accepted to Harvard and Yale. Benjamin was with me for five years. He won a prestigious $40,000 scholarship from Skidmore College for music studies. He was the only pianist in that competition who received this award. He was also accepted at Tufts University. It is very satisfying to know that our students continue to achieve such success."
