The Conservatory’s core program is individual instruction in all instruments and voice, supplemented by musicianship classes and performing ensembles (see links). Instruction is available in:

  • Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass, harp
  • Woodwinds: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone
  • Brass: trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone horn, tuba
  • Keyboard: piano, organ, harpsichord
  • Guitar: acoustic, electric, bass
  • Percussion
  • Voice

EARLY CHILDHOOD - Register Now!
Children from Infancy through Age 8

The Conservatory’s early childhood programs are designed to introduce basic music skills in a nurturing, fun-filled environment. Class offerings include:

  • Pre-Twinkle Suzuki Violin Program (age 3)
    Children and parents attend a weekly 45 minute introductory group class.
  • Suzuki Strings (violin, cello) (ages 4 & up)
    The Suzuki method is based on the principle that young children can develop instrumental skills though listening, imitation and repetition. The parent is an active partner with the teacher and child, attending each lesson and guiding at-home practice. The program includes a weekly individual instrumental lesson, group class and Music Skills class.
  • Music Skills (see Musicianship classes)
  • Group Piano and Guitar (ages 5-8)
  • Group Piano, Violin and Guitar (ages 5-8)
    A gentle introduction to the study of an instrument.
  • Music Together® (Program in Residence), Infancy through age 4
    A joyous and playful approach to music and movement for children with a parent/caregiver.

MUSICIANSHIP - Register Now!
Ages 4 to Adult
The Conservatory offers a comprehensive sequence of musicianship classes for ages 4 through adult. Students ages 4-8 take Music Skills, which uses musical games and movement activities to teach basic pitch and rhythm skills. Students ages 9 to adult are evaluated by the Conservatory’s theory faculty and placed appropriately in a theory class. Each course is 2 semesters and culminates in an evaluative exam each May. These classes are offered at no additional cost for students enrolled for private instruction. Musicianship Courses:

  • Music Skills (ages 4-5 and ages 6-8)
  • Theory Basics (ages 9 to adult)
  • Theory I – VI (ages 9 to adult)
  • Sightsinging (ages 9 to adult)

HONORS PROGRAM - Register Now!
Instrumental and vocal students ages 12-18.

Because the Conservatory is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Conservatory’s Honors Program is highly regarded by colleges and universities and may help students gain admission to their first-choice schools. Students ages 12-18 are admitted to the Honors Program by audition. The required curriculum includes instrumental study, theory, orchestra and/or ensemble, and juried performance. Graduates receive the Artist Certificate.

COLLEGE PROGRAM
For over thirty years, the Conservatory has collaborated with Mercy College to provide instrumental studio classes and applied music courses for the College’s undergraduate majors in music and in the College’s Music Industry and Technology program. Students earn credits toward a Bachelor of Science degree. Students must apply and gain admission to Mercy College. Tuition is charged by Mercy College.

ADULT PROGRAMS - Register Now!
Adults who wish to pursue their interests in music and theater arts will find wonderful opportunities at the Conservatory. Private instruction can fit any schedule — from a half-hour lesson on your lunch break to a lesson that meets at the same time as your child's.
